"Art in the Heart of La Jolla": Join this Community Outreach Program
Pierce Harrah (Vice President of LJAA) and Jade Schulz (active La Jolla Town Council Trustee and now LJAA member Jade J. Schulz Violins) have worked diligently to involve LJAA artists and the La Jolla Town Council in a community outreach program. They are providing art by LJAA artists in the heart of La Jolla.
What does this involve? LJAA artists will be painting prepared 20"x 27"' boards that will be fastened to the trash receptacles in La Jolla Village. The purpose is to help beautify La Jolla Village and to promote our LJAA artists' paintings.
Twelve LJAA artists are painting their artwork at home and delivering their completed works to Jade by August 6. The same artists will participate in "Easel Day" on August 8 to promote the community project. In a live demo, the artists will paint the same subjects that they completed at home, so that viewers can watch the project.
Jade will attach the actual artwork on the boards to the trash receptacles. Each board will include the artist's name, as well as being stenciled with "La Jolla Art Association."
We will receive a lot of publicity for this event: The artwork will remain for 6 to 9 months, depending on wear and tear.
Thanks to those participating! Questions can be directed to Pierce Harrah by phone or email him.

Paintings get re-rotated every year. There are about 36 paintings for trash receptacles in La Jolla Village. (2011) Rodger Heglar, a 2008 LJAA President, originally came up with this idea of this public art project.
