Ulla Liljeblad was born in Sweden. Sixten Holmgren, a renowned painter, was not only her father but her most influential teacher from the time she was a child. At eighteen, she had her first exhibition of pencil, watercolor, and oil paintings in her home town of Borlänge.
At nineteen, Ulla moved to the U.S. and entered the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied art and Couture Fashion Design. She later studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
The majority of Ulla's life has been devoted to caring for her husband and two sons. She spent several years as a fashion designer but has returned to her roots: painting. She has found acrylic to be her main medium, but watercolor and pencil are old favorites also.
In her works, Ulla primarily captures realism, with a sense of serenity being the consistent inspiration. She has traveled the world and finds her creative enthusiasm in her love of nature, everchanging seasons and landscapes, and the diversity in the world's architecture.
As a resident of San Diego County, Ulla has had exhibitions throughout Southern California. She has been honored with "Best of Show" and awards at juried exhibitions. Her works have been purchased by private collectors nationwide.
