About the Artist

When I was a student in Paris in the mid 60's, I studied art history and spent my Sundays in the Louvre. I dreamed of becoming an artist. Upon my return to England, my home, life interrupted and art was only a part time endeavor.
In 1980, I moved to the USA. My ceramics evolved to sculpture, two pieces were juried into an Orange County Art show and one was purchased by one of the jurors. I progressed to sculpture of the human form, learning armature and mold making techniques at California State University, Northridge. Then the earthquake broke a bunch of my stuff and I decided to opt for drawing classes at Santa Monica City college, where a marvelous life drawing professor, Goffredo, got me hooked. Over the years I gathered a well rounded art education which included art history and design classes at UCLA.
In 1987, I gave birth to my daughter. Life took over and art took a back seat. Even so, I managed to keep drawing and painting while at home. Weekends would find baby and me at the 'Art in the Park' shows which worked well for me, even generating one commission of four paintings. That was stressful!
In 1991 I moved to San Diego where my husband and I owned a mom and pop bakery. Part of my job was drawing all sorts of characters on cakes and using an air brush to paint them. Believe it or not this was great experience and also taught me to work fast. In 1999, I entered two paintings in the Del Mar fair and both received second place ribbons.
Since my retirement, I have indulged in every art class that appeals to me that I can afford. In 2002, I joined the San Diego Portrait Society. Their demonstrations, by various established artists, have been great and the in-house critiques helpful. I've managed a 1st and a 2nd place for two of my portraits.
Currently I paint from my home studio, constantly learning from other artists. Until the beginning of 2010, I used to draw every week with a lovely group in North Park, however after a 30 year gig, the recession cut our funding and we're currently looking for a new home. I am in the process of starting an association of varied and talented artists here in Tierrasanta where I live.
