Openings in 2006
There are still
openings in the exhibition schedule for 2006. Only about half of our members
have signed up for exhibition dates for next year. The calendar was recently
opened up to artists who would like to request a second opportunity to exhibit
in 2006. Check the 2006 Exhibition Schedule on the
website. Shows with fewer than 12 members are still open to add new exhibiting
members. Send your reqest for exhibition dates to exhibitions@lajollaart.org.
Gallery
Transition Crew's Role and Exhibition Procedures Changed
At the Board
meeting November 7, the LJAA Board reconsidered the role of the Gallery
Transition Crews and the general reluctance of exhibiting artists to have the
GTC decide the presentation of their exhibitions. To retain some key benefits
of having an experienced crew on hand during installation of exhibits -
knowledge of how to use the hanging hardware, how to solve hanging problems
without damaging the walls, and how to prepare professional labels and ensure
proper documentation, we will continue to have GTC but with redefined roles.
The exhibiting
artists will resume creative control of the presentation of their show. Gallery
Transition Crews will continue to provide the artworks lists and labels, help
the concluding show remove their work, accept the incoming work for the new
show, and supervise the hanging according to LJAA standards. The show group
will do the actual hanging, but the GTC will offer assistance as to how to use
the hanging hardware, physically protect the gallery, and maintain LJAA’s
professional appearance.
