PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Your fellow LJAA members have added a huge value to our organization recently and deserve to be recognized and supported. New member photographer, Michael Orenich, had one of the most entertaining receptions I have attended in a long time. His daughter wowed the guests with her professional belly dancing performances. I had the pleasure of seeing her do the "Big Fire" dance along with about 50 other guests. If you have not seen Michael's photographs of artistic excellence yet, you still can visit the gallery through November 7. I know you appreciate it when other members visit your shows or come to your receptions, so you know Michael will really appreciate your interest in his work. Joan Yin provided free Chinese Brush painting lessons and a demo in her "Share Your Art" workshop last Saturday, October 23. There were 24 artists creating many beautiful brush strokes. When you see Joan, please thank her for her contribution to our community of artists, and thank Catherine MacDonald for her expertise in both managing the "Share You Art" program and in helping it thrive. Fujiko Isomura, Mike Morse, Carole Duebbert, Mark Donnelly and I have been working with Arthur Wang to create a new website for LJAA. We will have a new front page, more features, and it will be "online" very soon. Pierce Harrah has acquired a 1930s train engine used by Paramount Pictures for 1930s movie promotions for us to ride in the La Jolla Christmas parade, which starts at 2pm on Sunday, December 5. You are invited to join in the fun, so let Pierce know at 858-642-0098 and mark your calendars. Our busy Exhibition Director, Aimee Jo, also contributes her valuable time to other non-profit organizations. She, along with Catherine MacDonald, Sharon Ford, and Theresa Early Newbern have been teaching art to members of Shakti Rising, a social change organization transforming the lives of women, girls, and the larger community. They will be exhibiting their artwork in our gallery the second week in December. Look for the announcement later in this newsletter. Enjoy your November being creative, enjoying friends and family and preparing for the holidays.
Creatively yours,
Kris deYoung LJAA President president@lajollaart.org
