Upcoming Meetings 

The La Jolla Art Association Board meeting will meet Monday, May 1, at 7 pm at the Village Gallery, 7932 Ivanhoe Avenue. All members are encouraged to attend. .

LJAA Annual Membership Meeting will be on Saturday, May 13 from 10-noon, at the La Jolla Library Community Room (7555 Draper Ave).

Member News 

The 22nd ArtWalk festival,

SATURDAY  APRIL 29TH and SUNDAY APRIL 30TH

NOON TO SIX BOTH DAYS

April 29 and 30th, takes place in downtown's hip and historic Little Italy neighborhood and features over 350 artists. This free event is the largest open air gallery in the region and showcases some of the finest painting, sculpture, photography, music, drama and dance created by local, national and international artists. 

Several LJAA members have notified this newsletter that they are participating at the following locations:

Carol Thomason NWS will be at Booth 776 on Fir between India and Columbia, just East of Blick Art Materials Store).  

Jane Fletcher will be in BOOTH 155 on the north side of Beech Street between India Street and Kettner Street.

Jeff Yeomans will be at Space #222. 

Kate McCavitt is on Date Street, West of India - Booth 502

Lisa Davenport is in an office building, located at 800 West Ivy St. (It's the brick building with the Ben Hur coffee can painted on it.)

Raymond Ellstad will be presenting his Iconoclastic Portraits in a One Man Show at the Solana Beach City Hall Gallery.  The show is to run from April 18th to May 30th, 2006.  A reception for his show "Iconoclastic Portraits" will be held on Wednesday, April 26th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

The Solana Beach City Hall Gallery is located at 635 South Highway 101. Gallery hours are Monday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm and on Fridays April 28, May 12 & 26, 8 am - 5 pm.

 

 

Dottie Stanley is featured at Le Cirque de la Mer 2006, a benefit for The Foundation for Women. At the event Dottie will be demonstrating her painting techniques and displaying her works. The event takes place Friday, April 28 from 6 until 10 PM at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla . Information about reservations can be obtained by phoning the foundation at 858-483-0400.


Web Gallery Submissions

Members are not reading the Web Gallery Guide from the left side of the home page before sending in their submissions to our Webmaster. This results in getting many things wrong or not formatted at all. This in turn delays in creation of web galleries!

Members: when you are signing up to have images and artist information on the website, please, first read the Web Gallery Guide.  Save yourself and the Webmaster time and frustration, and get your work posted more quickly by following the instructions.  Upgrade price is $10 per 10 images or portion thereof, and all of the details are in the guide:

San Diego Fellow Calligraphers

Everyone welcome. Friday, May 12th for the San Diego Fellow Calligraphers general meeting and Program, Pop-Up Cards -2, with guest calligrapher and book artist,Sylvia Kowal. Create 5 movable, dimensional and/or interactive structures that can easily be used to create beautiful or whimsical cards or books. All materials will be cut for you. Please bring a pencil, ruler, glue stick, scissors, xacto knife, cutting mat and a stylus for scoring. No previous experience is necessary. http://www.sdfconline.com

Deadline for entry to the California Fine Art Competition is May 26, 2006

California State Fair Fine Art Competition will be exhibited in Sacramento from August 11 to September 9.  California Fine Arts (Expo Center, Building 7) 

The visual arts competition is recognized as one of the Golden State's oldest and largest fine art shows. California artists 18 years of age and older compete for prize money exceeding $14,000 and special awards. Entry divisions include two and three-dimensional works, film, video & animation, computer art, and photography. Special theme divisions include: Western & Equine Art, Art in Recycling, "The Art of Culture," "Vino!
